Trainer card
The CARD tab shows your trainer card, drawn the way your game draws it, front and back.
The CARD tab shows your trainer card without opening the START menu: your name, ID number, money, Pokédex count, play time and badges on the front, and the records the game keeps on the back. It updates while you play, so the play time ticks along and the colon between hours and minutes blinks, as it does in the game.
It isn't a lookalike. The card is rebuilt from your own ROM's graphics, with the game's layout, fonts, colours and trainer picture, and it matches the game's own card pixel for pixel. Your card's colour follows the stars you've earned, the same as in the game.
Opening the CARD tab
CARD isn't in the tab bar by default. You can open it two ways:
From MORE: tap
MORE, left of the gear. The tabs that aren't in the tab bar are there as app icons. TapCARD.Put it in the tab bar: open
SETTINGS>TAB BARand setCARDtoSHOWN. The bar holds up to five tabs next to the gear, so you may need to hide another one first.
See The companion for more on the tab bar.
Flipping it over
Tap the card to flip it. It folds shut and opens on the other side, like the game's own flip animation. The line under the card says which way the next tap goes (TAP TO FLIP THE CARD on the front, TAP TO SEE THE FRONT on the back).
The back has the extra records the game keeps for you, like your Hall of Fame debut, link battles and trades. What's there depends on the game, the same as on the real card.
The card is drawn at the largest whole size that fits the screen, so the pixels stay sharp.
Games with a trainer card
| Game | Card |
|---|---|
| FireRed and LeafGreen (English) | The game's own card |
| Emerald (English) | The game's own card |
| Unbound | FireRed's card in Unbound's purple, with Unbound's own player characters. No badges are drawn on it. |
| Glazed | Its own badges, pictures and font |
| Emerald Imperium | Emerald's card with Imperium's font and wording |
| Emerald Legacy | Emerald's card, with Legacy's fifth star and the black card it earns |
| SoulGold | Its own gold Johto card. Its stars come from the Hall of Fame, your regional Pokédex, a Battle Frontier record and its achievements |
| Lazarus | Its own orange card and font. The stars it draws follow its own rules, while the card's colour follows the original's |
| Recharged Yellow | FireRed's card with its own pictures, font and wording, and the six Pokémon you picked for the back |
Other games don't have a CARD tab yet, including Ruby, Sapphire and the other-language versions of the original games. Many hacks draw their trainer card in a way of their own that hasn't been mapped.
